Since 2017, the Student Guidance Team has been actively promoting positive education, encouraging students to recognize, develop, and practice 24 character strengths. We believe that everyone possesses all 24 character strengths, and the more we use them, the stronger they become within us.
To illustrate this concept, the Student Guidance Team designed a unique “扭蛋” activity called “Captain’s Draw”. The activity uses the metaphor of toy capsules to represent character strengths. Just like the capsules inside the machine, these strengths are already within us, waiting to be drawn out.
Beyond highlighting the character strengths, the Student Guidance Team also aimed to use this activity to foster a culture of appreciation and strengthen peer and teacher-student relationships. Therefore, the prizes within the toy capsules are all opportunities for quality time between students and teachers, such as "Having lunch with the school principal" or "Going to school in casual wear with your friends."
Captain's Draw has become a signature program at SJPS. Even the official logo of the Student Guidance Team is a toy vending machine (扭蛋機) filled with toy capsules.

The lack of space and classrooms has always been a challenge for our school. The first English Room of our school was established in 2009. We redecorated the old Tuckshop on the G/F. Unfortunately, the English Room was forced to close due to a termites infestation. In 2010, we moved the English Room to the 2/F storage room next to AR2. The space wasn’t big but we were able to accommodate half a class of boys to have English activities there during lunchtimes. In 2013, that room had to be vacated to conduct remedial classes. Once again, we were short of classrooms. However, as the saying goes, “When there is a will, there is a way!” Our NET seeked permission to convert the PTA meeting room on the 1/F. Finally, with the support of the Principal, this room became the English Room we all know and love for the past 10 years. Students could enjoy reading, playing English games and chatting with the NET during lunch recess. The room was also used as an ECA venue.

Before 2016, the Student Guidance Team consisted of one Student Guidance Teacher (SGT) and 1-2 Student Guidance Personnel (SGP). The SGT and SGPs worked in two separate offices. The SGP office was also used for guidance activities.
Since 2016, the Student Guidance Team has undergone restructuring and development, shifting its focus from a remedial approach to a preventative and developmental one. As a result, the team now comprises various professionals, including a Guidance Mistress, a School Social Worker, and other Student Guidance Personnel.
With the continuous expansion of the Student Guidance Team, the team's workforce and resources have increased significantly, leading to a shortage of space for both work and activities. Consequently, The school undertook an improvement project to provide the Student Guidance Team with a more spacious and functional work environment, and more importantly, to better support students' well-being.
We now have a dedicated Main Activity Area, known as the Blue Room. Within this space, students can connect and engage in face-to-face interaction in the Chatroom, furnished with two cozy sofas. The Guidance Team Personnel benefit from a large, enclosed workspace for enhanced collaboration, while an open area housing a toy library facilitates various activities.

Later in 1974, St. Joseph's College Kindergarten (SJCK) was opened on the top floor (7th floor) of the school building. Brother Alphonsus Breen was the driving force behind its establishment and hence became the Supervisor of SJCK. SJCK was in practice a feeder for the Primary School, providing good pupils for Primary One until 2012 when the Primary School was getting ready for whole-day schooling and needed to have converted the 7th floor into classrooms to accomodate the needs of more space.

The room is equipped with a large table, cosy sofas, a TV set, a big steamer and some microwave ovens. Teachers may reheat pre-heated food there and sometimes they may enjoy a leisurely lunch there as well. What’s more, Staff Common Room is a good place for social interaction. Sometimes staff would throw parties for special occasions, filling the room with laughters and happiness.

This photograph has been a fixture since the school's establishment in 1968. It features Mr. Li Koon Chun (李冠春), one of the founders of East Asia Bank. Mr. Li’s father, Mr. Li Shek Peng (李石朋), embarked on a journey to Hong Kong alone at a young age. Recognizing the importance of English education, he was fortunate to receive assistance from a priest, which enabled him to attend St. Joseph's College and receive a remarkable education at no cost. Driven by unwavering determination and a thirst for knowledge, Mr. Li Shek Peng went on to become a respected and successful entrepreneur within the Chinese community in Hong Kong. In gratitude for the education provided by the St. Joseph's brothers, Mr. Li Shek Peng’s descendants generously donated funds to establish the school hall. As a heartfelt tribute, a photo of Mr. Li Koon Chun proudly resides in the school hall, symbolizing this enduring expression of gratitude.

The facilities are fairly basic with only essential painting tools and materials, such as watercolours, paints, and brushes.
We aspire to create a more optimal environment for artistic creation that allows our students to express themselves freely and explore their artistic talents. In designing the new Visual Arts Room, we will prioritize openness and flexibility, so as to enable adjustments based on various instructional needs and facilitate different forms of artistic expression. Each student will have access to a dedicated workspace to ensure sufficient room for activities such as painting, sculpting, and pottery. This setup will also allow for guest artists to conduct lectures or workshops that provide further artistic inspiration to our students. We plan to introduce adequate water supply facilities, including multiple sinks and plumbing, allowing students to access water conveniently during lessons without leaving the room. This approach will save time and enhance learning efficiency.
